The things I’m most passionate about are animals, the environment, yoga, travelling and spending time with my amazing family and friends. More than often all of these converge over food. And in my case, vegan food.
I first went vegan for the very simple reason that I love animals. And I don’t mean ‘love’ as in I think they’re quite cute and I like to cuddle a particularly sweet-looking puppy now and then (although a puppy-hug certainly never hurt anyone), I mean ‘love’ as in I see them as our equals who have as much right to live in peace on this planet as we do. I see each individual animal, not as a commodity for us to profit from and utilise as we wish but as a unique, sentient individual who deserves love and respect just as much as you or I. In short I see them as someone, not something.
The more I learned about the cruelty involved in the dairy and egg industries the more it made no sense to me that I was vegetarian for ethical reasons but not vegan… Not that this happened overnight. For me it was definitely a journey (and still is), but the more I learn about veganism the more it just makes complete sense. For the animals, for our planet and for our own bodies. It’s the best thing I ever did and my only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner.
So whether you’re already a fully signed-up vegan looking for a new recipe here or there; a vegetarian looking to ditch the dairy or a meat-eater wanting to eat a more healthy, varied diet then hopefully there will be something here for you.
Despite what some people may think, vegan food isn’t restricted, bland or boring. It’s incredibly diverse, nutritious, tasty and good for you, the animals and the planet.
